Summary

The objective of this book is to investigate the conceptual foundations of accounting standards and to subject an underlying theory to the light of practical issues. Pat One is an economic analysis of income measurement and asset valuation to bridge a gap between accounting and economics. The fundamental concepts like ex ante expectation and ex post measurement of business results, generation and realization of subjective goodwill, the risks of investments and their extinguishment, financial and non-financial investments in substance, which all stem from the analysis, are then in Part Two applied to financial instruments, revenue recognition, depreciation and impairments, contingent equities, business combinations, among others. Part Three includes a critical review of what are going on with the global convergence of accounting standards.
