The economic consequence of international accounting standard is likely to reach beyond the impact on financial statements. This book demonstrates one of the economic implications of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs). Japanese accounting standard-setter made the accounting standards for retirement benefits according to IAS 19. The Accounting Standards for Retirement Benefits were adopted from the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2000. Firms have become active to review the retirement benefit systems after the standards are applied. This study empirically examines the magnitude of the impact of the standard on firms and possible motivational factor to change Retirement Benefits Schemes in Japan.
